Silk (pongee 5) scarf with rolled hem. 45 x 150 cm long. Hand-painted using gutta and silk paints, with freehand painted details. From the ‘Summer Creatures’ Series.
I have been obsessed with drawing bees, snails, ladybirds and dragonflies for a while now (here is one of my sketchbook inspirations for this one). It simply felt natural while basking in sunny spring days, to put them on a sunshine yellow scarf with a silvery white snail-trail and looped pink hearts. Cutesy but detailed. Whether you wear it knotted or as a stole, all angles will be beautiful.
I treated the scarf as though it was a long fabric sketch, and applied the snail trail with colourless water-based gutta resist. The background yellow was then applied, and anti-difusant applied on top in order to restrict the flow of the colours and allow me to paint the fine details freehand.
